How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?

Open Proof Panda, tap More → Proof Panda Pro, then tap Restore purchase on the Pro screen. You need to be signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you bought Pro with — the store, not us, holds the record of your purchase. Restoring is free and there is nothing to re-buy.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Your phone's own moving tools (an iCloud or Google backup, or moving straight from phone to phone) don't bring your Proof Panda records along. The key that opens them stays on the old phone, for your privacy. So you move them yourself, with a Proof Panda backup file:

  1. On the old phone, open Proof Panda and tap More → Back up. (It is also in More → Settings, under Data & Backup: Make a backup.)
  2. The backup is locked with four words. Write them down or save the recovery card, and keep them apart from the file.
  3. Save the backup file somewhere the new phone can reach: Files or iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or email it to yourself.
  4. On the new phone, install Proof Panda and open it.
  5. Tap More → Settings → Restore from a backup and pick the file. It replaces anything already in Proof Panda on that phone.
  6. Type your four words. Capitals and dashes don't matter, and words like "center" or "centre" work either way.

Receipt photos and attachments come along. Keep the old phone until you've checked that everything is there. Getting Pro back is a separate step; see the question above.

I forgot my app passcode. Can you reset it?

We can't. There's no account, and we never see your data, so we have no way in. You can get back in yourself:

  1. On the lock screen, tap Forgot your passcode?
  2. Tap Use my phone's passcode and enter the passcode you use to unlock your phone. This works while Let my phone's passcode open Proof Panda is on. It's on unless you turned it off.
  3. Proof Panda opens and offers to Set a new app passcode. You can also do it later in More → Settings → Security → Change passcode.

If you turned that switch off, tap Restore from a backup on the same screen instead. It erases what's on the phone and puts your backup file back (you'll need its four words), and it turns the app lock off. Without a backup, the only way back in is to delete the app and install it again, which erases everything in it. If you use the app lock, please make backups often.

What does the app lock protect?

The app lock keeps out someone who picks up your phone while it's unlocked. Here's what it does and doesn't do:

  • Your receipts, documents and photos are encrypted on the phone, with or without the lock.
  • We can't get in. There's no account, and we never get a copy of your data.
  • Anyone who knows your phone's passcode can open Proof Panda while Let my phone's passcode open Proof Panda is on. If you share your phone's passcode with anyone, turn it off in More → Settings → Security.
  • If someone opens Proof Panda with the phone's passcode, the lock screen tells you once, the next time it shows.
  • The lock doesn't cover a backup file. Anyone who has the file and its four words can open it, so keep the two apart.
How do I import a bank statement?

Proof Panda can add past spending from a file your bank lets you download. It never signs in to your bank, and it never asks for your bank login.

  1. On a computer, sign in to your online banking. Open the account, then look for Download or Export transactions (often under Accounts). Pick CSV, or Quicken / Money (OFX or QFX). These work best. A PDF statement can work too.
  2. Email the file to yourself, or save it to Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
  3. On your phone, open Proof Panda and tap the + button, then Bring in a bank statement. This opens Add from a bank statement. Tap Choose a file and pick the file.
  4. Check every row. Nothing is saved until you choose to add them.

Your first 5 imports are free. After that, you can still pick a file and check every row, and adding the rows needs Pro. If you undo an import, you get that free import back. Every bank's file is a little different, so always check the rows. If a file won't open, email us and tell us what you picked (please don't send the file itself).

How do I delete my data?

In the app, tap More → Settings → Start fresh, or simply uninstall Proof Panda — everything lives on your device, so either one removes it completely. If you bought Pro and want the small purchase record deleted too, see our data deletion page.

How do I get a refund for Pro?

Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, not by us, because we never see your payment details. On an iPhone, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, open Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history and choose the Proof Panda Pro order. If the store turns you down and you think that's wrong, email us and we'll do what we can.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@proofpanda.ca with what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Please include your phone model and the app version (shown at the bottom of Settings) — it makes the fix much faster. A screenshot helps too, but never send us your receipts or documents unless you want to.
